Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions people commonly ask us. Have a question? Contact us and we'll answer you, then post the answer here for everyone else.

Q: Can I import content from my blog?

Yes. Just click the Add Feed button when you create or edit a book. You can put your top URL into the field and we'll attempt to sniff out the RSS feed.

Q: How Do I get my RSS feed?

If our system can't detect your RSS feed, you may need to locate the URL. Here are some instructions on how to do that.

Q: Will other people be able to use my content?

No. After content is imported, it is only available for your personal use. If we ever do allow other people to use your content in the future, you will have to explicitly give permission for us to do that.

Q: What is the Description field used for?

This information shows up in a couple of places.

First, we display it on the microsite we create for your book so that other people who find your microsite in the future know what your book is about. (Note: these microsites are private now, but you will be able to make them public in the future).

Second, we send this information to Retailers so that it shows in in their listings. For this reason, we recommend making a compelling description along the lines of what you may read on a printed book's dust jacket.

Q: Can other people access my book when I click Save and Publish?

No. Only you can get to the "microsite" that displays your book and allows you to download your ePub file. If you choose to distribute your book through us we make your book page public tle help promote sales, but the eBook in your account cannot be accessed directly through BookBrewer by anyone but you.

Q: Can other people get my sample ePub file?

The ePub file we generate is only accessible to you when you are signed in.

Q: Why do you put "Sample, not for sale" on my cover?

When you're ready to preview your book, we generate an ePub file that you can read on your computer (using a tool like the Firefox EPUBReader plugin) or drag into various apps for the iPhone and iPad. This lets you see exactly what the final product will look like. When you're ready to sell the book through us or get the full file, we generate a new ePub with the "sample" messaging removed.

Q: How much does it cost to send an book to retailers?

Our basic $39.99 package is the easiest way to go. We'll prepare a clean, non-watermarked version of your book, assign it an ISBN (a $125 value!), and submit it for sale to participating eBook stores. You will be asked to set a price for your book for each retailer (minimum $2.99, maximum $9.99), and for each book sold you will be paid 95% of the post-retail proceeds. BookBrewer will keep only 5% of each sale. Remember that retailers will always keep their cut, so these are the percentages that we pass on to you after retailers pay us.

Q: How often will I get paid?

We pay authors on a quarterly basis if you are due more than $25 in profits for that period. If you have less than $25, amounts will accrue until the next quarter. We will make special payment exceptions for "power publishers" who consistently have more than $1,000 due to them in any given month.

Q: What do I need to do to get paid?

You must fill out a W-9 form that we can send to the IRS at tax time and give us a working Paypal account. Ge more information about how to provide this information to us here:

Q: How long does it take for my eBook to show up in retailer stores?

The processing time for each bookseller varies from 48 hours to several weeks, and it depends on a variety of factors -- most of which are out of our control. However, when we notice an unnecessary delay we do try to intervene with retailers and move your book up on their priority lists. Because eBook publishing is such a new field, many of the retailer publishing processes behind the scenes are still being created. We expect processing to be nearly instantaneous with most retailers over the next year.

Q: Can I get a full DRM-free version of my eBook without sending it to Retailers?

Yes. You can pay a higher $29.99 fee to get the full ePub file. You can then send that file to anyone you choose, post it online, or upload it to eBook retailers on your own.

Q: How do I add pictures to my books?

Easy! Create or edit a book, then click the Add Content button:

To upload pictures, choose the camera icon in the content toolbar:

Then click the Upload button, upload your photo, and insert it.

You should be able to change the size of the photo by dragging its corners, and put text above, below and to either side of it. To change how text aligns around the image, click the icon that looks like a picture frame:
